The recycle of PET bottles ~The reduction of CO2 emission by replacing recycled yean, which was made from PET bottles
TOYOBO CO., LTD.
Outline
We are going to recycle waste PET bottles into polyester yarn and replace the regular polyester yarn with the recycled yarn to be used for cloth and materials, which lead to contribution to reduction of CO2 compared with that when polyester yarn made of petroleum is used.
Our “ECOLECLUB○R” brand was launched in 1996, which currently produces and sells yarn and textiles made of polyester yarn derived from 700 t of waste PET bottles per year, which are being used for uniforms such as work cloths and white coats or for bags.
For the future, by enhancing Ecole Club, it can be expected that CO2 emission during product lifecycle is reduced.
Description
1. Provisional calculation for use of recycled PET polyester
• By producing polyester yarn from recycled pellet, the production processes from petroleum through pellet can be omitted, which saves energy required for the processes.
(Using 1 t of recycled PET resin can reduce 1.03 t of CO2 compared with virgin PET resin. According to research by Council for PET Bottle Recycling)
If annual production is 700 t, 721 t of CO2 will be reduced.
