Efforts to expand the introduction of renewable energy sources

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.

Outline

Since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, Japan has been required to make efforts for decarbonization based on the targets of a 26% reduction of greenhouse gases in FY 2030 and a 80% reduction by 2050. Under "The Fifth Strategic Energy Plan" and "Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures" , our company will contribute to society by promoting energy conservation and electrification of fossil fuel demand on the demand side, introduction of renewable energy power generation, reduction of environmental impact and introduction of sustainable ecosystems from the ESG perspective.

Description

● Expansion of introduction of renewable energy power generation
In order to expand the introduction of renewable energy, in addition to expanding the energy service to install renewable energy power generation equipment on the customer's premises, by utilizing the network of transmission and distribution companies, there is a need for a scheme to consume electricity generated from renewable energy in a place different from the place where electricity is generated (“the scheme for ELECTRIC POWER CONSIGNMENT between the same company of renewable energy”). This is because it is difficult for many consumers to install renewable energy facilities on their premises.

At present, our company is providing energy services based on a “the scheme for  ELECTRIC POWER CONSIGNMENT between the same company of renewable energy” in which our company is responsible for managing the same amount of energy at the same time. In August 2019, signed a contract for a “the scheme for ELECTRIC POWER CONSIGNMENT between the same company of renewable energy” service using a megawatt-class photovoltaic power generation system (Additional Information Reference), and started its operation in February 2020.

In the future, we will not only provide a 100% renewable energy supply menu as an electric power retailer, but also work to expand the use of renewable energy on the demand side, including the utilization of “the scheme for ELECTRIC POWER CONSIGNMENT between the same company of renewable energy”.
In terms of electrification, the TEPCO Group is a member of EV 100, and is promoting electrification by converting all business vehicles into EVs (electric vehicle).

In addition, we will promote VPP (virtual power plant) using thermal storage tanks and storage batteries, which we have already participated in the demonstration, and integrated energy systems for energy interchange between regions, aiming to expand the introduction of optimum energy saving, CO2 saving, and decarbonization systems, and will make a broad contribution to regional circulation symbiosis.
