Spreading the use of V2X bi-directional EV charging systems that can be used as virtual power plant (VPP) resources

TSUBAKIMOTO CHAIN CO.

Outline

The eLINK is a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) compatible charging system that bidirectionally connects EVs with buildings (V2B), factories (V2F), and power grids (V2G) via a quick charging connector. In normally it can smartly control power supply to the grid and charging of EVs.

The eLINK operates at "high speed" and "high accuracy" in response to the energy management system (EMS) commands by enhancing the communication function with the EMS that controls electric power.

We will contribute to the efficient use of natural energy and to reducing CO₂ by linking with photovoltaic power generation and storage batteries to recharge excess power to EVs. We aim to contribute to the construction of next-generation energy and social systems by utilizing eLINK as VPP (virtual power plant) resources in addition to emergency power supply (BCP) applications in the event of a power failure.

Description

Using EVs as a social infrastructure to adjust power supply and demand

The eLINK can be supplied by AC power from the DC power source of the EV to a building or power system. With the spread of renewable energy, it is expected that the balance between supply and demand of electricity will be disrupted. Therefore, there is the issue of securing the ability to adjust supply and demand and reducing the costs associated with this. One of the solutions is a supply and demand adjustment function called V2G, which utilizes the high-capacity batteries of EVs. The eLINK can be used as a primary regulating force because it can respond to commands from host devices such as EMS at high speed and with high accuracy. ECHONET Lite, ModbusTCP, BACnet, etc. are available as communication protocols with host devices. The eLINK has several control functions on its own. For example, it has a reservation operation function that can control charging and discharging at a specified time, and an automatic output adjustment function that adjusts output according to the load.

Use as an emergency power supply for BCP

The eLINK can be used not only for peak shaving and peak shifting during normal times, but also as an emergency power source for EV batteries at evacuation centers and information centers during power outages. The eLINK has functions to support long-term operation, such as linking with solar power generation and automatically recharging EVs with surplus electricity.

The V2X bi-directional EV charging systems "eLINK" will contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions by contributing to the spread and effective use of natural energy.

Currently the eLINK is available for domestic customers only.
