Dissemination of Compact Hydrogen Generator for On-site Hydrogen Filling Station

OSAKA GAS CO.,LTD.

Outline

Osaka Gas has been developing reforming processes using catalysts since the 1960s. By utilizing Osaka Gas's unique catalyst technology, burner technology, and gas purification technology cultivated through our history, we have been developing and commercializing hydrogen production equipment HYSERVE ,which is operated with city gas since the 1980s.

HYSERVE-300, which has a hydrogen production capacity of 300m3N / h, was developed for on-site hydrogen stations. As a raw material, not only city gas and LPG but also biogas can be used, and we are aiming to apply HYSERVE for hydrogen stations using biogas generated from sewage treatment plants. We’ll continue to improve manufacturing cost, installation space, and hydrogen production efficiency of HYSERVE, so that we expect more HYSERVE will be installed in hydrogen stations in the future.

Description

Features of compact hydrogen production HYSERVE equipment are as following,

① On-site hydrogen production
In the case of using city gas supplied by pipeline, high-purity hydrogen can be easily produced on-site

② Compact
Since we design a compact reforming unit by using a pressurized reformer, the world's smallest unit has been achieved.

③ Low manufacturing cost
Manufacturing costs and installation costs have been reduced by standardizing equipment specifications and integrating them into a package. In addition, since medium-pressure city gas (> 0.1 MPaG) can be used as a raw material, compression power can be significantly reduced.

④ High production efficiency
Offgas discharged in the hydrogen purification process contains flammable CH4, CO, and hydrogen. Since HYSERVE can recovery all of them and use them as burner fuel in the reformer, HYSERVE can improve hydrogen reforming efficiency.

⑤ Automatic operation
The development concept of HYSERVE is “Push one switch, Produce hydrogen” with the automatic program, hydrogen production and supply can start and stopped safely and easily by touch panel operation. In addition, since HYSERVE has a standardized function for automatically adjusting the hydrogen production load according to the hydrogen consumption. So that an expert operator is not required. By adding a remote monitoring system as an optional function, data collection, operation monitoring, receiving e-mail of its trouble at remote locations, and unmanned operation are possible.

⑥ Warm standby operation by hydrogen circulation
Since the on-site hydrogen production equipment of the hydrogen station does not perform hydrogen production at night, frequent start / stop occurs. If it is operated on the cold condition, the catalyst may be powdered due to thermal expansion and contraction of the reaction tube of the reformer, and there is a concern that the catalyst may be blocked in the apparatus. The HYSERVE series is standard equipped with a function to circulate hydrogen in the reforming system to perform warm standby operation.
